Community Events at Noble Kava

With event coordination as one of my primary responsibilities, I am constantly forced to think outside of the box on new events that will involve the community and increase customer engagement. Below is a list of a few events that have been successful during my time as the Marketing and Events Coordinator.

The Community Swap Shop

The Community Swap Shop is one of the most rewarding events that I have been a part of planning and executing. This event has occurred from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month since April, 2018 and is hosted by Noble Kava and Foggy Pine Books, a local indie book shop. People bring in their gently used books, clothing, shoes, accessories, household items and non-perishable foodstuffs to trade with other members of the community. If they don't have anything to trade, they can pay $1 per item or $5 for a bag. All proceeds are donated to local charities such as the Hospitality House, Boone, NC's homeless shelter, and Oasis, Watauga county's domestic violence relief home.

The Queer Arts Series

Another event that is run in collaboration with Foggy Pine Books  and the Boone Sexuality and Gender Alliance is the Queer Arts Series. We have had this event twice and it both times had a large turnout. It is a two-part series that begins at Foggy Pine Books with an exploration of literature with LGBTQIA+ themes and topics. The following night is held at Noble Kava where we show a film that we feel represents and empowers young queer people (i.e. MILK and Love, Simon). Our organization works hard to be an warm and inviting community center for all people and we feel this event helps to achieve that goal.

The Halloween Block Party

The Halloween Block Party took the most time and energy of all of the that events I have coordinated for Noble Kava. I reached out to our neighboring business, Juicee Coil Vapes, and collaborated with them to throw an unforgettable Halloween block party. I implemented a very detailed social media plan that included an Instagram giveaway with Juicee Coil Vapes and ran from the end of September, 2018 to the end of October, 2018. Depot Street, one of Boone's most popular bands, was hired to play at the event and had several smaller activities such as a costume contest and dance competition took place. Over 200 people came to the event and increased both our social media and in-store customer engagement following the event.
